Residential Program Success Stories
Jennifer's story
Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am 13 years old and I will be graduating from The Sheridan House Girls Residential Program.
My poor grades and behavioral issues caused me to enroll in the Sheridan House. At my old school, Norland Middle School, I was in many fights. I never did my schoolwork which resulted in D’s and F’s. My disrespectful attitude toward my teachers and other adults led to my being suspended a number of times.
I now attend Pioneer Middle School in Cooper City and have made many positive changes in my life. Thankfully, I am now making good grades at school and my behavior has changed, though it is still not perfect. I also made changes at home. Not only am I now doing my chores and helping around the house, but I am also doing what I am supposed to do.
Sheridan House helps my family tremendously. Since I was accepted into the program my family doesn’t worry about me failing my classes; my sisters and I don’t fuss with each other constantly; and my family works the program as well, and we are all better for it. Sheridan House also helped my family financially through gift cards, food, cleaning supplies, and much love.
I am grateful to all of those that have helped me make all of the necessary changes in my life…and my family is grateful, too!
Matthew's Story
Before coming to Sheridan House, my life was miserable. Nothing positive was happening for me because of my choices. I was failing school and I could not get along with my mom or my brothers and sisters. Even though I did not want to go to Sheridan House, I agreed and tried to make the best of it.
At first, I had to make some really big adjustments in my life; but I quickly started to notice huge changes. My grades began to improve and I learned how to better manage my time. I also learned useful life skills like how to clean my room the right way and take care of a house. After I realized that I was in control of my choices, I started to make a lot of progress and I gained my program points really fast. Sheridan House is the best place in the world if you follow the rules and take responsibility for what you do.
I have already earned more than enough points to graduate from the program, but I have chosen to stay in order to finish out the school year. Because of Sheridan House and Jesus, my life is not miserable -- I now have a purpose. Mr. Fig and Mr. and Mrs. Roberts believe in me and my potential; and they help to keep me focused on the right path. I will be sad when I have to leave because I would rather be here than anywhere else in the world.
