Where are they now - Amelia's Story
Our family was in the midst of a difficult time. We were working in the ministry and had three teenage girls that were growing up and testing the boundaries we had in place. We needed help, training, and relief from the daily stresses of trying to keep all of our girls on the right path. Our middle daughter, Amelia, specifically needed help. We researched several Christian residential ministries, and chose Sheridan House because of its reputation, staff, and the close geographical location that enabled Amelia to be at home on weekends.
Our experience with the Sheridan House Girls’ Residential Program was a true blessing. We loved Amelia’s house parents and she grew from the training and discipline she received. As parents, we were truly grateful for the helpful teaching we received from the mandatory parenting classes which we attended gladly. Sheridan House was willing to assist us in our time of need regardless of our tight financial circumstances. We are so thankful to have received a scholarship at the time we needed it most.
Now, fifteen years later, Amelia is still benefiting from her training at Sheridan House. Her dedication to her faith, disciplined lifestyle, and personal responsibility is exemplified through her completion of school; ministry to inner-city, at-risk children; community service as a lifeguard for the City of Ft. Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department; and dedication as a pre-school teacher for several years.
All of Amelia's experiences have given her a desire to enter the legal field and she is currently enrolled in college to receive a degree as a paralegal. This term she made the Dean's List, was recently hired at a large law firm, and is excited to climb the corporate ladder into the position she desires.
During these years, God has taken her through many challenges, but Amelia's faith in Him has continued to grow and bear fruit. We are so thankful for the work of God in our family’s lives and are thankful for Sheridan House helping us all to keep our sanity during some of the toughest years.
