Perfectly Timed Gift
The Bob Elmore Family Children's Home
Dr. Bob Barnes
8/1/2008
This year, Sheridan House has experienced two great challenges – tight finances and an
escalating number of people with significant needs. This dilemma has been made evident
by our unfinished children's home.
Driving past our new 57 acre campus, one would see a boys' home that appears to be empty...and,
unfortunately, it is. In the midst of building this wonderful home, funds ran short even with
generous construction donations from Stiles Corporation and sub-contractors such as Apeaste Corporation,
Atlantic Coast Fire Suppression, Pumpco, Pumpet, Tarmac, Terrell Duke Masonry, Tri City Electric, and
Zarrella Construction. Due to depleted resources, we decided to finish the exterior and landscape the
grounds leaving the interior for future completion. On the outside it looks like a new house, but it
is not yet a home.
The biggest heartbreak regarding our decision to stop construction was the increasing number of families
desperately requesting help for their sons. With heightened concern, we realized that many of the boys
needing help would be too old for our residential program by the time we were able to help them. We needed
a miracle…and we needed it fast.
Thankfully, God sent a man named Bob Elmore to us. Mr. Elmore called and shared his burden for at-risk
children and asked if we needed help…financial help.
With the continued assistance of the Stiles Corporation and the great generosity of Mr. Bob Elmore,
work has resumed on our fifth children's home. Soon it will be more than a house... it will be a home
for teenage boys in need of structure and guidance. Boys who will one day grow up to become the leaders
God intends for them to be.
God is so good! We are continuously amazed as He sends generous donors and volunteers to help us
rescue His children. Bob Elmore's gift was, as God always is, perfectly timed. Thanks to the
completion of the Bob Elmore Family Children's Home, many boys will be afforded an opportunity to
make essential, positive, and profound life changes.
