Daily devotion for:  Sunday, March 21, 2010 My Strength and Shield

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.”
Psalm 28:7, NAS

The emphasis of this verse is God. He is the avenger of stress and trouble. He is the perfect helper. He is the One for you to lean upon for comfort and direction. So then the question which looms over our heads is, “Why don’t more people take advantage of His incredible strength?”

I was in my office one day counseling someone when the phone rang. I saw that it was my wife so I answered, frustrated by the interruption. This frustration did not last long for I learned that one of my sons had just fallen out of a high tree (about eighteen feet) and that he was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Every emotion I could imagine flooded my person, including what would happen if Max were not alive. He was really in no imminent danger but the thought still raised its ugly head. The final assessment was that Max had a broken pelvis. He actually loved all of the attention that the broken pelvis brought him, like his school friends getting to take turns pushing his wheel chair around to all of the first grade classes. But my initial reaction was one of slight fear and of not trusting the Lord with my son.

As I drove to the hospital I had time to pray and think about what was happening. Max was treated as a trauma case and so the protocol was rigorous. By the time I arrived all was basically calm and Max was at ease.

Will you trust the Lord to be your strength and your shield? Will you trust Him with your children, with your job, your marriage, your health, your life? Life with Jesus can be so good if you will only trust and stop trying!!!

QUESTION: What areas of your life are you not trusting to the Lord? How will you start thanking God for all He does and is to you?
