Join us in celebrating how Jesus Christ has changed lives through the various ministries of Sheridan House. Whether it’s a child who’s life has been restored through our residential program, a single mom and her children who have been offered hope through our single parent ministry, or an individual or family who have broken through and free from an emotional/behavioral struggle through our counseling center; we give all the glory, honor, and praise to Jesus Christ for changed lives. He is the Way, Truth, and Light.

Back-to-School Wrap-Up

…always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:20 (NIV)

Right after the Back-to-School event, one of our single moms sent us that verse along with a note of thanks.  Her gratitude for something as small as a couple of backpacks filled with supplies for her boys touched our hearts deeply.  The fact that she knew it was a gift from the Lord and that He was allowing us to share in this blessing was just awesome. Another Great Story

When 7 year old, Jordan Brewster heard an announcement at Crossway Church that there were children in South Florida who needed help getting school supplies; she was determined to do something.  After the service, she told her parents that she really wanted to “Fill a Pack.”  So, they took one of our flyers home and started brainstorming. Single Parent Ministry – Christmas Toy Shoppe Outreach

“Mom, I really would love to have an iPod for Christmas this year; it’s the only present I really want.”   Ana, a single mom, sadly responded, “Son, I would love to be able to purchase an iPod for you; but this year, it is just not possible.”

As Ana and her son entered the Sheridan House Christmas Toy Shoppe to serve as volunteers, they were amazed by the plethora of toys on display.  They were both excited to serve all day and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the moms smile as they selected toys for their children.  Among the many toys we received from very generous donors, were a couple of iPods we set aside for moms with older children.  So, when I pulled Ana aside and asked her if she would like one to give her son for Christmas – not knowing anything about the interchange between her and her son — Ana was absolutely overwhelmed!  Tears of joy welled up in her eyes as she said, “I can’t believe you are asking me this question.  This is the only present my son asked for this Christmas!” (more…)

Thanksgiving Outreach Wrap-up

As tears of joy and gratitude welled up inside, Tina, a single mom of three kids, expressed her immense pleasure and gratefulness.  Why was she so grateful?  Well, you see, it had been many years since she had been able to serve and enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal with her children on Thanksgiving Day.   As she gathered the children around her table, loaded with a scrumptious-looking roasted turkey and all the trimmings, Tina reminded her children that God had not forgotten them.  He had sent people who cared and thought of them this holiday season.  She states, “This year we ate like kings and queens.  This Thanksgiving, it is YOU we are thankful for!” (more…)

Back-to-School Wrap-up

With bright eyes and a huge smile that revealed his excitement, little 6-year old Benjamin proudly marched up to a volunteer greeting him and his mom at the door and exclaimed, “Today, I get my back pack!” There was nothing else we could do other than escort them immediately into the room where over 800 backpacks were on display.  Overwhelmed and overjoyed, Benjamin captured the heart of every volunteer with his infectious smile and world concurring attitude.

Benjamin was only one example of the fun and excitement shared by hundreds on Saturday, August 8th, at the Sheridan House Back-to-School event for single parent families.  The morning began bright and early; and those waiting in line were treated to bagels and chicken biscuits from Offerdahl’s Cafe & Grill and Chick-fil-A.  Once inside, the children were greeted by the famous “Mother Goose” and her face painting team.  Kids were beaming with the colors of angels and the webs of Spider-man.
