Raising Confident Kids

The 2009-2010 school year is upon us.  Parents certainly won’t miss the school year with the abundance of homework, projects and programs; but it’s easy for parents to miss the more important “parenting year” if they don’t take the proper precautions.  Albeit, school is important component in your child’s education; it is only a small element in their development.

Parents will face an amazing amount of pressure to become performance enhancement coaches for their children – juggling schedules and making decisions wrapped around academic performance with sports and music sprinkled throughout.  The stereotypical mantra is, “Keep them busy.”  After all, isn’t there a verse that says, “Idle hands are the devil’s tool”?  No, there’s no such verse.

Nothing is more important than teaching your children how to think and make wise decisions so they can lead.  Leaders learn how to be human beings – beings, who think before they act – not simply “human doings.”  The development of your child’s character and the proper training to instill the ability to make wise decisions is far more important than academic, athletic, or artistic performance.  Get out in front of this school year.  Make it a year of parenting with education as one component.
