But I Do Not Feel Dead
“Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
Colossians 3:2-3, NAS
These verses are for those of you who live according to your feelings. If you are a Christian, then your life is hidden with Christ. You have been eternally changed. But how tempting our feelings are if we allow them authority in our lives.
I was 90 feet up on the roof of the athletic building of my college campus. I was young, daring, and confident until… The instructor said, “just lean back.” I heard him say that the rope would hold me as I repelled down the side of the building but my brain was not so sure. I was gripped with fear and I began to shake. Finally I leaned back. Wow! This rope really will hold me, this is fun!!! I made it down the building with great flare. What if I had allowed my feelings to win out? I would probably still be on the ledge of that roof.
God’s Word is true. You can trust the fact the Lord desires joy and spiritual growth for His children. So let me ask you a question, why are you living in the shadows of fear and feelings? Come out into the light of reality, the life of following Christ and know that the old you really is dead and the new you is alive in Christ. The fact is you have been bought and changed into a new creation of the Lord. (1 Corinthians 5:17)
The repelling is a great illustration for me to remember the fact that the Lord will never leave me and so I can start trusting. Come up with your own illustration and then every time you sense that you are living by feeling and not trusting, consider your illustration.
QUESTION: List all areas of non-trust in your life. List the most troublesome feelings with which you struggle. Ask the Lord to give you new strength and joy based on your growing relationship with Him.
