Tutors Needed

“So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.” Galatians 3: 24-25, NIV

My wife, KC, was my tutor when we were in school together. I would never have survived Spanish (no hablo Espanol!) without her. I married her before going to seminary because I knew she would have to tutor me for free. A tutor helps a student understand. Paul says that God gave the Law to Moses that the Law might help us understand grace, our “tutor” to lead us to Christ. The law teaches us the demands of a Holy God are far more than we can fulfill. We need grace. Thanks be to God that we may find it in Jesus! Our tutor, the Law, becomes superfluous once we learn the lesson of faith.

What fascinates me about this concept is that God, the teacher (if you will), sees fit to use a tutor to help us, the students, know the truth. There is something else, too. I do not think the Law of Moses is the only tutor God uses. God can use you as a tutor to lead someone to faith in Christ. I know what you are thinking. I was not the best student in the world, so how can I be a tutor? The thing is, the course is not all that complicated. The final exam is one question, open book: How can I be saved from my sin? The answer: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved! Graduation is too awesome to describe! If you believe in Jesus today, then you probably had a tutor to help you somewhere along the way.

QUESTION: Who are you tutoring right now? What can you do today to establish a tutoring relationship with someone in danger of failing the most important test of all?
