Wait?!?

Wait?!?

“For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:5, NKJV

Each year somewhere around July the 4th I begin to hear my children ask the question with great anticipation, “When is Papa going to get here?” They know he is coming they just do not know when. Tomorrow seems like such a long time to a child. I find myself doing the same thing with God. When God? Is it today God? Tomorrow seems such a long time.

In Acts 1:5 Jesus promised His Holy Spirit, the first thing the disciples had to do was wait. Acts 1:4 clarifies, “…He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father.” How do you wait for something that you need or at least think you need now?

Connect with Others – The Bible states there were around 120 who gathered together to wait. Our tendency is to withdraw and alienate ourselves from people. Who in your life is trying to break through and encourage you as you wait, but you have pushed away? There is strength and encouragement along with healing in healthy relationships.

Connect with God – Acts 1:14 explains, “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.” Waiting is not passive. You actively wait allowing God to do in you what He desires. Often when we look back on our lives it was the journey not the destination that made the difference. The disciples certainly did not understand all that had happened but they continued to connect with God through prayer.

Connect with Life – During this time of waiting the disciples filled the vacancy left by Judas’s betrayal. While we are waiting we have to continue with life, changing diapers, going to work, and all that goes with our daily lives. There is a temptation to STOP everything and in some cases it may be necessary but, more often life continues as we wait.

QUESTION: You may feel like asking, is Papa here yet. Instead while you wait ask yourself are you connecting with others? Are you connecting with God? Are you connecting with life?
