2011 Summer Trips
The boys and girls of our residential program experienced an incredible summer trip thanks to the generosity of our donors! Because of your support to sponsor the summer enrichment program, their summer wrapped with two unforgettable trips.
The theme for the boys this summer was Man Up and their camping trip put everything they learned all summer into practice. Not only did they eat military rationed portions that they were in charge of themselves, but when faced with the challenge of the mountain and elements they knew that they had to finish what they started…and they did! Another Great Story…
The parents of our residential children recently participated in a holiday celebration dinner held in each of our homes. Traditionally, we incorporate a celebration of the children’s efforts and achievements with an awards ceremony. Additionally, each house also gives a “Parent of the Year” award. One of the homes awarded the “Parent of the Year” to an outstanding grandfather this year. (more…)

When William graduated from Sheridan House earlier this year, we knew his return home would be a unique adjustment. Within a matter of days, he and his family moved out of state. Not only did William need to adapt to living at home 24/7, but he also needed to acclimate himself to a totally new environment. Due to the far distance, we understood that our follow-up with William and his family regarding this fresh new start would be limited to phone calls and email updates. (more…)

Our Sheridan House Journey by Cynthia Seely
One of the saddest things I relinquished as a single mom was being able to be available every second of every day for my children. I felt robbed of being a “real mom” when I had to work several jobs. (more…)
Residential children give back
On November 4th, over 300 golfers who attended our 28th Annual Golf Tournament were served dinner by some of our residential program boys at one end of the tent and by our residential girls at the other end. The smiles on the children’s faces said it all. They were serving – not because they had to serve – but because they chose to serve. These children wanted to express their gratitude to the many donors who were ultimately there to help them. They were able to express their thankfulness through service.
Another Great Story…
It was Jennifer’s first day at Sheridan House. Like the other girls, she was very nervous. She recognized she needed help with her behavior. She was also highly aware of how difficult she made it for her family at times. Even though Jennifer knew things could not keep going the way they were, she was not excited about being at Sheridan House.
Jennifer’s mother works long hours; and she feels like her mom never has much time for her. Her older brother is trying to establish his own life and is not around as often as he once was. Her father calls her occasionally, but rarely arranges to spend time with her. Jennifer’s extended family has asked that she not come around until she changes her behavior. Simply put, Jennifer’s family experience is painful and fractured. (more…)
Boys’ Residential Program Graduates – Summer 2010
At the conclusion of the summer program, we celebrated the greatest milestone of all for the children in our residential program when four boys graduated. Each of them successfully completed the program and positively influenced the other children in the homes. Here are their highlights: (more…)
