Another Great Story…

Whenever you ask a middle school boy a question, there is a 98% chance the answer will sound something like this, “I don’t know…I don’t care…not now…I can’t!”  Wes, however, is the exact opposite.  He is a thinker who expresses his feelings with his words.  His seven months with us have been “profoundly life changing.”  Wes continues to have a multitude of questions about his Creator, this world, and the people who live in it; but he is on his way to becoming a strong, young man for God.

Another Great Story…

When William graduated from Sheridan House earlier this year, we knew his return home would be a unique adjustment.  Within a matter of days, he and his family moved out of state.  Not only did William need to adapt to living at home 24/7, but he also needed to acclimate himself to a totally new environment.  Due to the far distance, we understood that our follow-up with William and his family regarding this fresh new start would be limited to phone calls and email updates. Living with My Low Expectations

We settle for far short of what God can do when it comes to our prayers.  Could it be we don’t really know Who Jesus is?  When you live life expecting God to be God, you begin to live by faith rather than by far.

From A Building, To A Home

This past month we celebrated the opening of our 5th youth home here on the campus at Sheridan House.

We are overwhelmed with the blessing of this truly magnificent building.  For another 10 boys who are at a crossroad in determining the type of adults they will become, the home is complete with everything they need.  There are fully furnished bedrooms, a study hall with computers to assist in their learning, a family room large enough to hold devotionals every morning for a dozen people, and a kitchen/dining area big enough to feed the boys’ bottomless appetites.  Additionally, the behavioral specialist has an office in the home and the house parents are provided with a personal living space.  There is no doubt – it’s an incredible facility!

However, when I reflected on the building that opened this school year, I couldn’t help but wonder in amazement how our Father in Heaven has blessed us beyond our wildest imagination…not with a building, but with people.

  • The behavioral specialist who will work tirelessly from sun up to sun down to train the kids
  • The House Parents who pour their lives into kids desperately in need of love and accountability
  • and most importantly, the kids He’s entrusted to our care who almost always bless us in ways we never imagined.

From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.
John 1:16

Thank you for all that you do to support Sheridan House!  Your involvement and sacrifice have made our 5th home possible.

Church Doesn’t Count

Church doesn’t count if your faith doesn’t work in the world you live in. Your life in the world is your act of worship.

Fear Factor – Faith Is What You Do

God permits difficult circumstances in our lives as opportunities for us to grow and to strengthen our faith. So many of us bail out in fear and miss the triumph of faith.

Does “IT” Work

The greates victories in your life do not come from making the big sales, but rather from living a life that points to Christ each day. And although living your faith is difficult to do because it requires balance and humility, Christ must be the “Why” for what we do, say and think.

Seeing is not Believing

Although some people may see physical evidence of God and hear intellectual discussions on the existence of God, it is not until a real need for God is realized when a person will decide to put their faith in Jesus Christ.

Get Ready for Friendly Fire

Defending your faith during ridicule or persecution should serve to make your faith even stronger. Friendly fire can be a good thing.

Just Jesus

People normally don’t seek Jesus for help until they have no place else to turn. The difficulties we think we need solved usually serve as the introduction to the answer to our biggest needs. The fact that most people don’t come to faith in God during times of blessings leaves Him to draw us during times of difficulty.
