The constant stream of 340 single moms coming to get their turkey and “fixin’s” at our annual Thanksgiving outreach was a joy to behold! One could see the look of relief and joy on the moms’ faces, knowing they would be able to provide a delicious meal for their children on Thanksgiving Day — all because someone cared to give! (more…)

I absolutely loved the career workshop with Ruth! She was inspiring, uplifting and funny. I have told so many people about her and how great the seminar was. - Nichol
The seminar itself was excellent and I picked up several great tips. I will be redoing my resume today. Ruth was wonderful. She was very understanding and at the same time she “told it like it is” which I really appreciated. - Linda (more…)
Letter of Gratitude…
When I first came to Sheridan House, I was newly single with 3 children. I was scared and was stepping into the unknown of raising 3 kids on my own. I moved to Florida after I divorced to be closer to my parents because I knew that my mother would be my greatest help in raising my kids. Unfortunately, my mom passed in December 2010. It was then that my church introduced me to Sheridan House and I have never been so blessed. (more…)
Another Great Story…
Bubbling with excitement, Sarah told us that she was finally able to purchase her own home! She is a hard-working, single mom who faithfully serves the Lord full-time at her church. After years of working as a mentor in a discipleship group-home, Sarah was ready to move out and into her own home along with her children. She prayed and saved diligently for 5 years; and the Lord recently blessed her with a home that is beyond what she imagined! (more…)
Thanksgiving Blessings Wrap-Up
The constant stream of single moms coming to get their turkey and “fixin’s” at our annual Thanksgiving outreach was a joy to behold! On their faces one could see the look of relief and joy, knowing they would be able to provide a delicious meal for their children on Thanksgiving Day — all because someone cared to give! On Saturday, November 20, Sheridan House, along with 60+ volunteers, gave away much more than turkeys and groceries. We offered hope and encouragement to several hundred single moms through the love of Jesus. Don’t just take our word for it. Here is what one grateful mom said:
Residential children give back
On November 4th, over 300 golfers who attended our 28th Annual Golf Tournament were served dinner by some of our residential program boys at one end of the tent and by our residential girls at the other end. The smiles on the children’s faces said it all. They were serving – not because they had to serve – but because they chose to serve. These children wanted to express their gratitude to the many donors who were ultimately there to help them. They were able to express their thankfulness through service.
A note from a single mom
I am a single parent who has been blessed to receive help from Sheridan House.
A few months ago, I attended the single parent classes on Godly Parenting. As a single parent of three very active children, the parenting insight Dr. Barnes shared was invaluable in the way of how to set goals for my kids and deter negative behavior. I developed an individualized plan for each child since their ages range from 4 to 16. The instruction I received has been so helpful! (more…)

Compassion and service are two very important concepts that many of today’s youth are not taught. In fact, society teaches quite the opposite: “Look out for number one!” As a part of our summer enrichment program, the girls in Sheridan House had the opportunity to put compassion and service into action.
Following a visit from an Iraq War veteran (who is also married to one of the girls’ behavioral specialists), the girls collected items to include in care packages. These care packages were sent to troops currently serving in active duty. The response from the girls was awesome. “This is so cool that we can actually send this stuff to troops!”
Among the snacks, shampoo and conditioner, pens and paper, socks, and magazines they packaged, the girls also send a small note of encouragement along with a picture expressing their thanks.
“I wish we could cheer all of them up,” Madison said. In a day when the media would have us believe we are involved in a pointless battle, the girls learned to keep politics aside. They may never know who receives their care package, but in the words of Ashley, “God will send it to the soldier He knows needs it the most!”
